Jean-Louis Rastoin, associated expert to IPEMED, and Morgane Hervé-Gangloff, head of projects at IPEMED, went to Valladolid on the 1st and 2nd July 2019 for the scientific conference IWAlgae 2019.

This international conference about algae and their use for the treatment of waste water was the opportunity to present to an audience of experts the latest developments of the WABA project (« Wastewater bioremediation using Algae-Bacteria consortia for rural Area »), a multi-actors initiative supported by the University of Cordoba (Spain), the CEA of Cadarache (France), the MAScIR Foundation (Morrocco) and IPEMED (France), within the framework of the ERANETMED program. IWAlgae 2019 gathered nearly 300 participants from all over the world, to inform their peers of their breakthroughs and research results, and to share their experiences.

IPEMED’s mission in Valladolid also allowed us to organise a working session with all partners involved who attended the conference, in order to advance on IPEMED’s contractual requirements. Specifically, a qualitative survey aimed to estimate rural zones’ equipment in waste water treatment devices and anticipate the WABA project’s potential impacts in economic, social and environmental terms will soon be provided to a panel of micro-algae experts, including some met by IPEMED’s team in Valladolid.

If you wish to get more information over the WABA project or on the survey conducted by IPEMED, do not hesitate to contact Alexandra Dubini, Project coordinator (alexandra.dubini@uco.es), or Morgane Hervé-Gangloff (morgane.herve-gangloff@ipemed.coop).
