In the framework of the EBSOMED project, funded by the European Union, the Union of Mediterranean Confederations of Enterprises (BUSINESSMED) organised the MED BUSINESS DAY Roadshow, in partnership with its members CONFINDUSTRIA-Italy et the CGEA-Algeria, on 10 January 2019 in
Algiers.

The MED BUSINESS DAY aimed to give the actors of the Euro-Mediterranean entrepreneurial ecosystem the opportunity to identify new partnerships and to initiate new business relations. The event gathered over 370 Mediterranean economic actors, among which 40 Italian companies.

The day of 10 January was inaugurated by Mrs Saida Neghza, President of BUSINESSMED and of the CGEA, as well as by Mr Vincenzo Boccia, President of CONFINDUSTRIA. They both highlighted the improved business climate in the region and the strengthened bilateral relations between Algeria and Italy.

The opening session, moderated by Mrs Jihen Boutiba Mrad, Secretary General of BUSINESSMED and Director of the EBSOMED project, was followed by speeches by Mr Jean-Louis Guigou, President of IPEMED, Mr Kheireddine Medjoubi, Secretary General of the Algerian Ministry of Industry and Mines, and by Mrs Monia ELDJENDOUBI, in charge of Cooperation at the EU Delegation in Algeria, who presented the various actions of the European Union in the country and underlined the potential synergies between these programmes and the EBSOMED project.

In his speech at the Algiers Roadshow, Mr Guigou insisted on the essential role of very small and small businesses in the co-development of both shores of the Mediterranean and beyond, of the Africa - Mediterranean - Europe axis. In this regard, he relied on our works on coproduction and “North African industrialisation”. In view of the Two Shores Summit, he concluded on the strategic role of Algeria in the region and on the key sectors that need support.
