IPEMED, RESOLIS, the Unesco chair in World Food Systems, in partnership with the Association des Régions de France (ARF) and the Mediterranean Citizens' Assembly, are happy to invite you to take part in Workshop 5 on “Climate issues, soil degradation, food safety and precariousness” that they organise in the context of the MECOP Climate Conference in Tangier on 18 and 19 of July.

This interactive workshop will take place on 18 of July, from 2:30 pm to 5:30 pm, and will focus on the benefits that “territorialised food systems” (SAT) can have on adaptation to climate change and sustainable development.

After assessing the agri-food situation in the Mediterranean, you will be able to take part in the Workshop from 3:45 pm to 5 pm to debate and choose among two “Solutions” to improve the adaptation of rural populations as well as of agricultural and food systems facing not only environmental, but also economic, social and political crises.

Emphasis has been placed on regional solutions that enable to combine the issues linked to adaptation and attenuation. All these projects offer mechanisms adapted to the Mediterranean and encourage exchanges between Northern, Southern and Eastern actors in the region, be they from an academic, civil, economic or institutional background. Although these macro-regional non-exclusive solutions cannot alone solve the problem of food insecurity in the Mediterranean, they could have an impact at the national and local levels and help achieve both the SDGs and the major objectives set during the COP21.

Solution n°1Creation of a collaborative platform on the Initiatives for Responsible and Sustainable Nutrition (IARD) in the Mediterranean;

Solution n°2Creation of a “Mediterranean local produces” label.

Come and give us your opinion on this occasion and choose the solution you wish to support!

Temporary detailed planning:

1st part (2:30 pm - 3:30 pm): Since the MEDCOP21, pilot institutions have been working on a collective work called “Territorialised food systems and initiatives for responsible and sustainable nutrition in the Mediterranean”, which will include the contributions of Spanish, French, Italian, Moroccan, Tunisian and Turkish experts.
