Euro-Mediterranean Competitiveness Council
- Ipemed
With 192 nations, regulating the global economy is a difficult task. That is why major regional blocks are being formed, associating northern and southern regions (NAFTA, Asean+3, etc.) and establishing their own trade systems and regional regulations. These major regional blocks are boosted by business groups.
The Euro-Mediterranean area must in its turn become one of the world’s new major regions
Which is why companies from both sides of the Mediterranean closely involved in Euro- Mediterranean exchanges have initiated a movement to spur regional integration. The name of this movement is the Euro-Mediterranean Competitiveness Council (EMCC), constituting the Supervisory Board formed by all of Ipemed’s founding companies.
Based in Paris, the EMCC draws on Ipemed for its think tank and general secretariat.
Resolutely international, the emcc makes use of the network of Ipemed national branches: currently Ipemed - Lebanon, Ipemed Mauritania and in future all countries in the Euro- Mediterranean area.
These branches, coordinated by Ipemed, give companies a means to make their voice heard and influence the Euro- Mediterranean political debate.
Base-building principles
Parity : Involving as many companies from the North Mediterranean as from the South and East. Companies put forward recommendations discussed and approved on a collegial basis.
Internationalization : A business movement comprising companies from North, South and East of the Mediterranean and branches in each of the region’s countries.
Influence : EMCC constitutes a network that influences political and institutional powers of the Euro Mediterranean region and carries weight in the debate.
