1st meeting of the Scientific Committee in 2016
On the morning of 9 February 2016, the members of IPEMED Scientific Committee gathered in order to carry on the reflection on the Foundation project “La Verticale - Africa - Mediterranean - Europe”.
Several issues were addressed during this meeting.
Firstly, the idea that the global balance of power in which our societies evolve is complex. We must stand up to the United States and China by mobilising a large regional space. The foundation project “La Verticale AME” thus makes perfect sense.
Besides, all the members present agreed on an undeniable observation: the digital revolution is gaining ground. The example of “Silicon Savannah” is Kenya is significant. This revolution leads to a series of transformations we must take into account. Today, the logic of use prevails upon the traditional capitalist logic based on property. With the coexistence of these two models - competitiveness and cooperation - we must redefine our values and raise fundamental issues. Do we want to follow a logic of inclusive development or an exclusive logic? Beyond economic perspectives, we are raising the issue of a social paradigm.
Finally, this meeting showed the will to highlight security as a positive notion by applying it to different sectors (food safety, job security...). Indeed, this notion makes sense for everybody, thus building consensus.
