New coproduction study: the potential of Morocco

Launching of a study of the Mediterranean Coproduction Observatory dedicated to Morocco’s potential as to the development of coproduction

The economic development of the Mediterranean basin is a key economic issue for Europe and Southern and Eastern Mediterranean countries. It calls for a better knowledge of the strategies implemented by European companies in the Mediterranean and, conversely, by Mediterranean companies in Europe.

With the development of coproduction, it seemed necessary to carry out a work focused on ex post qualitative studies on investments made in the Mediterranean.

At the end of 2014, IPEMED launched the Mediterranean Coproduction Observatory in order to analyse and support the evolution of this new North - South productive partnership model. The Observatory published a first macro-economic report on the new dynamics at work in this space, a report on Tunisia’s potential as to the development of coproduction and launched a study on the interest of companies from the Ile de France region for SEMCs. Now, the Mediterranean Coproduction Observatory continues to explore by analysing Morocco’s potential as to the development of coproduction.

Funded by Bpifrance, this study will analyse the position of Morocco in the Mediterranean macro-economic environment as well as the foreign investment dynamics at work in the country, in order to offer recommendations to support the development of coproduction as well as a better integration of the country in the Mediterranean and global economy.

The study will focus on the energy transition sector, a high-potential sector in Morocco, especially in view of the MEDCOP 22 and the COP 22 that will take place in the country in 2016. 

This study will be unveiled during an event organised in Morocco in May 2016, in partnership with the Cercle des Economistes.
