Residential seminar in Tunis : Foresight thinking on employment

Published : Friday 20 November 2009
A first thematic meeting was organised on November 20 and 21, 2009 in Tunis. This meeting was the first themed seminar to be jointly organized with a public partner institution, the Tunisian Institute of Strategic Studies and an illustration of ITES’s keen interest in both the project and forecasting in general.

Job creation is the major challenge faced by Mediterranean countries. To take up this challenge is not easy considering the characteristics of the labour markets but also, and especially, considering the aspiration of a mostly educated young population. But this challenge is not impossible. This seminar tackled this question in its global and sector-based dimensions.

All in all, the seminar provided an occasion for in-depth discussions on forecasting Mediterranean labour markets and the dynamics of sectoral employment (in rural and farming sectors, energy and environment and the service sector), and how they link in with migratory movements.
